Pia Wurtzbach shares story behind her iconic royal blue gown at Miss Universe 2015 pageant

Timely at relevant sa katatapos na 71st Miss Universe ang mga kuwento ni Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach sa panayam sa kanya ni Dra. Vicki Belo sa YouTube channel nito.

Ito ay dahil sa mga bagong rebelasyon ni Pia nang sumali at magwagi siya sa 64th Miss Universe noong December 20, 2015.

Ikinuwento ni Pia kay Vicki ang stress na naramdaman niya dahil sa original gown na ipinasusuot sa kanya ni Mrs. Stella Marquez-Araneta, ang founder ng Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc., sa final competition night ng Miss Universe 2015 na ginanap sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pagbabalik-tanaw ni Pia, “It was a black and white gown. I’m not sure where it came from, anong brand, but I remember it being a size bigger and bitin.

“Bitin siya, hinila niya pababa, pero bumababa sa boobs so hinila ko pataas, pero nabibitin sa baba.

“So, naghihilahan kami tapos nai-stress ako kasi parang, ‘Oh, my gosh, ito na yun. Ilang taon tapos ito, ito lang?’

“Dyan Castillejo was right there. She saw everything, but I love Dyan so much because nothing came out. She never talked about it.

“There were other people there but they all kept quiet and they didn’t talk about our wardrobe problem.”

Pagpapatuloy ng former Miss Universe, “I went back to my room, still no solution to the gown thing.

“And then, I was losing hope na rin na parang, ‘Okay, I don’t know what to do. I’m stuck. I don’t have a gown, I don’t have anything prepared.’

“And then I got a call, and it’s Madam [Stella Marquez- Araneta]. Bago ako matulog, and I picked it up and then she goes, ‘Okay, you can wear whatever you want just make sure you win.’”

Ang iconic na ngayong royal blue gown na idinisenyo ni Albert Andrada ang napili ni Pia na isuot sa grand coronation ng Miss Universe 2015.

Ayon kay Pia, “The blue gown didn’t arrive until three days before the competition because the flight kept getting delayed because of bagyo, a typhoon here [in Manila], so ang daming challenges.

“When it arrived, I didn’t know what it was gonna look like. Hindi ko alam yung cut, I just know the color.

“So, sinukat namin siya siyempre, dasal-dasal kami kasi walang fitting. Thankfully, nagkasya siya and pinraktis ko lang yung gown sa hallway ng hotel.”

Si Pia ang pumili ng kulay dahil marami ang nagsabing bagay sa kanya ang royal blue na katulad ng isinuot niya sa isang charity event ng Red Cross Philippines.

Bilang respeto, ipinagpaalam ni Pia kay Mrs. Araneta ang kulay na gusto niya para sa kanyang gown na gagamitin sa 64th Miss Universe.

MADAM STELLA’S “BAUL”

May kuwento rin si Pia tungkol sa “baul” na naglalaman ng mga paboritong accessories at damit ni Mrs. Araneta.

Ayon kay Pia, “I don’t know how old [the dresses] but I just know that she really practice slow fashion.

“Whatever a girl would use last year or the previous years, it would be recycled again and then use again.

“I think may ganoon din on some pieces kasi merong earrings na, ‘Ah, alam namin na isinuot ito ni Miriam Quiambao. So, kapag yan ang ibinigay sa yo, lucky charm yan. Mananalo ka.’

“May mga kuwento na naka-attach sa garments, accessories.”

May reaksiyon si Pia sa “bad experience” ni Mrs. Araneta sa mga Pinoy fashion designer kaya matagal na panahon na ang BPCI head ang nagdedesisyon sa mga gown na gagamitin ng beauty titleholders ng Binibining Pilipinas.

“I believe so. I believe that’s what happened. I’m not sure of the exact details,” sambit ni Pia.

“She’s a foreigner, di ba? She’s Colombian. She lives here.

“So, maybe at that time, she felt na parang hindi siya isinasama sa process of creating the gown.

“I just heard that there was a bad experience and that put her off dressing the candidates in Filipino designers.”

TRIVIA ABOUT Q&A IN MISS UNIVERSE

Bukod sa trivia tungkol sa gown na ginamit ni Pia sa Miss Universe 2015, may mga nakakaaliw rin siyang kuwento tungkol sa question-and-answer portion ng international beauty pageant na sinalihan at nagpabago sa takbo ng kanyang buhay.

Isa na rito ang sagot niya sa tanong na: “How would you describe a beauty queen to a seven-year-old boy?”

Sabi ni Pia: “I would describe a beauty queen like a superhero that there’s a reason why we dress up like this. This is our costume and we’re out to save the world.”

Natatandaan din ni Pia na pagkatapos ng Q&A sa final competition ng Miss Universe 2015, nagpunta siya sa buffet table at kumuha ng cookies na kinain niya.

“I remember I didn’t eat much because I wanted to look good in the swimsuit [competition]. But just before Q&A, kumuha ako sa buffet ng maraming cookies tapos kinain ko, para paglabas ko dun, ang ganda ko kasi busog ako. May glow!

“Iba yung glow ng kakakain mo lang and it’s the food that you like that you’ve been deprived of for so long. Tapos na yung swimsuit and hindi ka lutang kasi Q&A, kailangan may presence of mind.

“So, the sugar really helped because I was in a good mood, busog ako and masaya.”
