Maricel Soriano transforms into “Kinang Inay” in spoof vlog

Gay icon and Diamond Star Maricel Soriano slayed as she transformed into her drag persona, “Kinang Inay.”

The award-winning actress introduced her drag persona in a YouTube vlog on Sunday, November 20, 2022.

In the vlog, Maricel starred in her very own spoof of Drag Race Philippines and the upcoming Drag Den Philippines dubbed as “Pa Drag Race Den.”

Maricel also tapped her very own “nakshie”Xilhouette, whose real name is Wong Israel, as they compete for the title of “Ultimate Drag Mother.”

In case you didn’t know, Xilhouette was one of the Top 4 finalists of the recently concluded first season of Drag Race Philippines.

Maricel also sought the help of Drag Den Philippines contestant Shewarma to do her Ariana Grande-inspired drag makeup.

In the vlog, Xilhouette revealed that she and Maricel have been friends for quite some time. The two met back in 2005, when Maricel was working on the Kapamilya series Vietnam Rose.

Xilhouette recalled, “Kung hindi niyo alam, matagal ko na talagang nanay si Inay [Maricel]. And I’m so happy na naging nanay ko siya.

“Pero prior that, alam ko na kasi kung gaano ka-professional at gaano kagaling si Inay nung days pa ng Vietnam Rose.

“O, di ba? Sa mga hindi nakakaalam, i-google niyo na lang yung Vietnam Rose na teleserye ni Inay.”

Xilhouette said it was production designer Danny Cristobas who actually introduced her to Maricel. At that time, Danny helped Maricel look for a stylist to dress her up.

Xilhouette revealed that she initially declined when the opportunity arose since she didn’t want to disappoint her biggest idol.

The drag artist said, “Nag-panic ako! Sabi ko, ‘Seryoso, si Inay? Si Maricel Soriano?’ Sabi ko ayoko kasi unang-una, ayokong magkamali at pumalpak sa isang taong kasing galing mo.

“Pero ang convincing powers ni Tito Danny ay bongga. ‘Sige game, sige na nga!’

“So, parang na-convince na ako, ‘Kelan ba ito?’ ‘Mamayang 8 a.m.’ Naku, naloka talaga ako! ‘Tapos, knowing how meticulous you are!”

Xilhouette then recalled his first impression of Maricel.

“So sa pagpasok mo ‘nay, alam mo, super loving ka. Inano mo agad ako nun, in-approach mo ako. ‘Tapos, para akong kinakabahan nun, siyempre. Siyempre, Maricel Soriano ka, e.

“Ang gaan mo [katrabaho]. [Sabi mo], ‘Halika dito,’ ‘tapos kinilala mo ako.

“‘Asan yung mga damit? Yung isusuot.’ ‘Tapos, kabang kaba ako, ‘tapos pinakita ko sa iyo yung mga damit.

“Sabi mo, ‘Ay, gusto ko ito, gusto ko ito…’ ‘Tapos, next thing I know, this is what you did, nag-stay po kami sa labas ng tent.

“Kasi siyempre, para privacy ng artista. Alam mo, sabi mong ganun, ‘Patawag nga yung baklitang nagdadamit…’

“‘Tapos, ayun na ‘nay, chika-chikahan na tayo ‘tapos ayaw mo na akong palabasin. Gusto mo dun na ako. Dun na po nag-blossom ang aming friendship.”

Later in the vlog, Xilhouette talked to Kinang Inay about her experience in Drag Race Philippines and how she’s dealing with the aftermath of the show.

Xilhouette and Kinang Inay then competed in a “Pic Pak Vogue” photoshoot and a lip-sync battle of Maricel’s famous iconic movie and TV lines.

The “competition” ended with a “double shantay,” meaning both were declared winners.

Xilhouette, however, decided to give up the title for Kinang Inay.

But Kinang Inay has also prepared to lose the competition, bringing out a lipstick that she would use to write her farewell message in the mirror.

Ultimately, both Kinang Inay and Xilhouette left and walked away from the title.
