Andrea Torres proud ate to brother with special needs: “Forever namin siyang baby.”

Andrea Torres has always been praised by netizens and her fans for being a great sister to her younger brother Kenneth, who was born with Down Syndrome and was diagnosed with autism.

But the 32-year-old Kapuso actress refuses to take all the credit since everyone in her family contributes to helping Kenneth live a more comfortable life.

“Talagang tulung-tulong po kami pagdating sa kanya,” Andrea tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview via Instagram’s direct message.

“Klaro po sa aming lahat na forever namin siyang baby and we’re honored to be given an angel in the family.

Andrea admits that it has been quite a challenge taking good care of a person with special needs, but she and her family are not complaining.

Ang prayer naman po talaga namin is to make him as comfortable as possible at palagi lang siya ma-shower ng pagmamahal.”

She adds, “For us naman po, hindi siya sacrifice. Maluwang sa puso namin ibigay lahat sa kanya.”

KENNETH’S MILESTONES

Andrea is just happy to see her brother’s improvement after years of therapy.

Pero we know that he understands kasi nagre-react siya.

Seeing Kenneth achieve these milestones makes Andrea more grateful for everything she has in life.

Like example, yung paghawak ng spoon.

“Milestone sa amin nung nagawa niya yun. So it makes you grateful for everything that you get to do.

So what I do is I bring him with me all the way to QC, balik siya ng house sa South then sunduin na lang po ulit ako sa QC para mahaba talaga ang nalilibot niya.

“Gustung-gusto po niya iniikot sa kotse. Pre-COVID po, we would take him with us sa grocery. Nakakapush na siya ng cart.”

Her brother also enjoys strolling around their neighborhood.

“Also nagwo-walking siya. But now po na may COVID, for his safety since di rin po siya nakakapag-mask, hindi po muna namin siya nilalabas pag may tao po.”

Andrea and Kenneth also share a love for sweets.

“He also has a sweet tooth like me, so we make sure that he gets that. Pero siyempre we switch it up—fruits, ice cream, jello—para mostly healthy food.”

The Kapuso actress is proud that Kenneth is very loving.

“Napakasweet niya. Sinisilip niya ako sa room, we hug and kiss every time we see each other.

She adds, “He likes colorful toys, wooden toys, lights and music. Pag type niya ang music nagsasayaw pa iyan.”

GREATEST WISH FOR KENNETH

Asked what her greatest wish is for her younger brother, Andrea said, “For him to live a long, healthy, comfortable life full of love, and for him to experience more things that will make him happy.”

Ultimately, Andrea hopes that being open about her brother will raise more awareness for the plight of persons with special needs.

She explains, “Wish ko po talaga magkaroon pa ng awareness sa kanila para we know how to handle them better, especially sa public places.

We should be more sensitive and welcoming.”
